The Phantom Tollbooth

The Phantom Tollbooth was based on the classic children’s book of the same name by Norton Juster. It was produced as an animated film in the late 1960s by MGM/Visual Arts, although not released until 1970. The producers were Chuck Jones, Abe Levitow and Les Goldman. Chuck and Abe served as the animation directors and former Schlesinger/Warner Bros. storyman Dave Monahan handled the live action directing. A great number of Jones’ former Looney Tunes crew worked on the film including production designer Maurice Noble, background artist Phil DeGuard and animators Ben Washam, Lloyd Vaughan and Richard Thompson.
